Random thoughts from Hong Kong

2 months in Hong Kong and yesterday, for the first time, I told the Taxi driver our address and he didn't need me to repeat it 8 times, tell him the area it's in and the road it's off of and then go "Ooooohhhh...Lom PO do", he just said "o.K" It was a good day. It's little things like that that always make me feel like a tourist here. But slowly, very very slowly, we are starting to figure things out. Our house is also starting to come together piece by piece so that helps in making it not feel so hotel-ish. There are a few pics...for those of you who don't know the house that Ryan said was our house in the last blog is not...that's a complex in Cheung Chow a small fishing island in Hong Kong, for some reason he thought that it would be funny to tell people that's our house...aren't you all laughing?

It's weird because I don't think our place is small at all anymore but if I think back to when we first got here I was shocked at how tiny it was. We tried to show a little bit how small it is...the kitchen is one of my arms wide. The view is the view from our balcony at night...cool eh?

Hong Kongians are pretty weird sometimes, in some ways they have NO apprehensions about being themselves in public. In Ikea one day I saw 4 adults (ranging from 35ish-60ish) hanging out on the chairs visiting, socks and shoes off, feet up on footstools!!! The Chinese are mainly non-confrontational so people just do what they want and for the most part people don't say anything. We've seen a guy (20ish) wearing a full wet suit when it was around 27 degrees Celsius...IN OUR SWIMMING POOL. And now the sight that I think takes the cake for a classic Hong Kong sighting... a Buddhist monk on his cell phone...or at least I think he was a Buddhist monk...if not he was a man who liked to dress and shave his head like a monk...which is an equally likely possibility here in Hong Kong.

Well now that I've wasted all of your times with not so interesting information I am going to go. We are all doing well, and slowly adjusting to Hong Kong. Hunter goes to the doctor AGAIN tomorrow (every week he goes 1-2 times, so that's what I've been doing a lot of) So thanks for reading and WE LOVE COMMENTS and TO HEAR HOW PEOPLE IN CANADA ARE DOING...hint hint.

October 1

Hi, so we will actually try to keep this thing somewhat updated so check back here often. Today is Hunters 5 month birthday. I think I'm gonna get some cake to celebrate on his behalf. The little monkey is pretty much crawling.
The picture is a good shot of the building we live in. (the yellow one). It's pretty posh...
I think we've found a church that we like so we're gonna start attending there. We've only been there twice but we've already met so many friendly people and the pastor is really nice. The other church we tried was ok but we went there 3 times and didn't meet one new person we didn't already know.
The school is really great. The staff is awesome and the kids are respectful. The only thing that kinda sucks is my classroom is on the 4th floor so I have to take 20 grade ones up and down the stairs 8 times a day. I have kids in my class from China, Singapore, Philippines, and Japan.
Jill has been keeping busy with Hunter and trying to get our flat put together. It was not furnished when we moved in so we've been slowly picking stuff up here and there to make it feel like home. She has also started tutoring a girl from the school one hour a week and she is planning on helping another teacher coach the senior boys basketball team at the school starting in November. I am planning on coaching the senior girls team. It should be fun considering all my experience I have with the sport of basketball.
Don't be afraid to leave comments because we love to hear from people at home. Later,

Ryan, Jill & Hunter
